Mary Broddle Embroidery is bring her popular After school embroidery club to Aoom for homeschoolers.

WHEN:

It will run during term time; booking in half term blocks, paid for in advance.

Time: Wednesdays term time 12:30pm – 1:30 pm

WHAT:

This term’s design is an abstract flower, based on a photo I took of a holyhock.  I have been inspired by traditional Jacobean crewel work and the tree of life designs to develop this piece.

As well as the stitches themselves, the children will prepare the work and learn how to transfer designs and finish the piece for display.

HOW:

A kit of materials for the term’s design will be sent by Royal Mail 48 hour tracked service the week before the block starts.  This will include everything needed other than a small pair of scissors and a flat head screw driver (which is needed for the lessons).

A  Zoom invite will be sent prior to the first session that will recur for the each session of the block.

Mary will teach with a multi camera set up, including overhead camera to demonstrate details.

Her engineering training helps with breaking down each activity into simple steps and aid with adapting explanations to ways the help each attendee.

The problem solving approach to each design is taught to help attendees gain confidence in tackling an embroidery that at first seems overwhelming.

If an attendee wants to adapt the design in their own way, Mary guides them in how to do this suitably.

The class will be limited to small groups to ensure each attendee is given individual oversight and guidance.

It is unlikely that the attendees will be asked to complete ‘homework’ between sessions.
